Biography

Dr. Theron D. Williams

For more than 30 years, Dr. Theron D. Williams has been the Pastor of the Mt. Carmel Church of Indianapolis, Indiana.

 

Dr. Williams was born in Detroit, Michigan. He is the fourth of eight siblings. He attended the Detroit Public School System and is a graduate of Murray Wright High School, after which enrolling in Highland Park Community College in Highland Park Michigan. He is also an alumnus of Virginia Union University and its School of Theology, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Divinity degree, respectively. Dr. Williams completed his doctoral studies at The Chicago Theological Seminary.

 

While a student at Virginia Union University, Dr. Williams was elected Pastor of the Angel Visit Baptist Church of Dunnsville, Virginia. During his brief pastorate at Angel Visit, he moved it from a part-time church (holding worship services twice per month) to a full-time church. He also upgraded the Music Ministry by bringing on accomplished musicians and choir directors. The Youth Ministry was also enhanced under his leadership.

In 1987 the people of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, of Indianapolis, Indiana, extended him the call to lead its congregation. Under Dr. Williams’ dynamic leadership, this church has experienced incredible transformation and exponential growth, numerically, spiritually and organically. Mt. Carmel has grown from under 200 members to more than 3,000 members.

 

Dr. Williams has led the church to complete 3 major building projects and an extensive facility renovation program. Mt. Carmel has over 20 church auxiliaries and highly functioning ministries that meet essential spiritual and physical needs of the church and community.

 

Dr. Williams’ emphasis on developing young people for Christ influenced the establishment of a powerful children and youth ministry. This ministry ministers to and empowers the lives of hundreds of young people of the church and community.

 

Dr. Williams is a national renowned proclaimer of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is in demand as a powerful expositor of the Word of God blessing thousands around the United States, the Caribbean and Canada. He has also established a reputation as the founding president of The Bible is Black History Institute. This institute empowers the Black church and community by teaching the significance of Black presence in the Bible.

 

In addition to his latest release, Black Church/White Theology: How White Evangelicalism Controls the Black Church, he has authored 13 other compelling books, including The Bible is Black History series: The Bible is Black History textbook (an Amazon Bestseller), the Personal Workbook, Children’s Edition, Children’s Bible Alphabet, Children’s Activity book, Young Heroes of the Bible, and Great Women of the Bible

 

Dr. Williams serves as the Scholar Practitioner for the Doctor of Ministry Program and adjunct professor at Virginia Union University, Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology.

 

Dr. Williams is a father and grandfather.
